Electricity department gave good news to customers of Sylhet

Due to the development of transmission lines, power supply is cut off in several areas of Sylhet metropolis almost every week. But this time the Electricity Development Board (BUBO) brought good news for the area included in Sales and Distribution Division-1 of Sylhet.

Henceforth the need for shut-down for repair and renovation work will be reduced. As a result, more than 70 thousand customers of the metropolis will get uninterrupted power supply. This benefit has been ensured to the customers as the 'source line' has been added to the Kumargaon grid substation up to Ambarkhana.

According to Bubo sources, 33/11 Ambarkhana substation under Sales and Distribution Division-1 of Sylhet has an electricity demand of about 25 MW. At present proper supply is being ensured from Kumargaon grid substation. Earlier, if there was a fault in the line of the Kumargaon grid substation for some reason, the power supply was stopped. But now the power supply can be continued on the second source line. The addition of the second source line will further reduce the suffering of consumers. If required, the supply can be increased up to 50 MW as per the demand.

Fazlul Karim, Executive Engineer of Bubo Sales and Distribution Division-1, said that earlier, electricity was supplied through a line to the Ambarkhana substation. As a result, if there is any problem, the power supply in distribution section-1 would be stopped for a long time. We have been working for the last two years to solve that problem. Finally, the source line was officially launched on March 31. The electricity problem in this area will be greatly reduced as the source line is operational. In case of fault in the Kumargaon grid substation to Amberkhana 33/11 KV substation line, power supply can be continued on the second source line. The load carrying capacity of Ambarkhana 33/11 KV substation has now doubled as the source line has been commissioned.

Fazlul Karim also said that the addition of 'source line' will be a milestone in Sylhet's electricity system development and transmission. Of this 7 km source line, 2 km is underground and 5 km is overhead line. The official said that several other projects are under implementation for the development of Sylhet's electricity system.

Part of the Bangladesh Power Development-funded work in Sylhet, which began in 2019, is the addition of a 'source line' to the Kumargaon grid substation up to Ambarkhana. A 7 km underground power supply line was constructed in the city at a cost of around 55 crore rupees. In the first phase, the country's first underground power line was inaugurated in Hazrat Shahjalal (RA) shrine area. Under this project, electricity has been completely underground from Ambarkhana Substation to Sheikhghat Circuit House via Chauhatta.
