SCC Election : all candidate accepted the party`s decision
11 people wanted the nomination of Awami League for the post of Mayor in the Sylhet City Corporation Election. Among them, 10 are from Awami League and one expatriate leader. United Kingdom Awami League Joint General Secretary Anwaruzzaman Chowdhury was nominated from among them in the party's nomination board meeting on Saturday.
Apart from Anwaruzzaman, the other 10 people seeking nomination are Awami League Central Committee's former organizing secretary Misbah Uddin Siraj; Metropolitan Vice President Asad Uddin Ahmed, Abdul Khaliq; General Secretary Md. Zakir Hossain; Joint General Secretary ATMA Hasan Zebul, Azadur Rahman Azad; Organizing Secretary Arman Ahmad Shiplu, Saleh Ahmad Salim; Member Prince Sadruzzaman Chowdhury and Md. Mahi Uddin Ahmad.
Although there was anger in a section of the party over the nomination of Anwaruzzaman Chowdhury, no one agreed to say anything publicly about it. All said they accepted the party's decision.
Asad Uddin Ahmed, vice-president of Metropolitan Awami League seeking nomination, said, many of us asked for nomination. The team chose one from among them. We will all take the field for him now. Within a few days, the metropolitan Awami League will decide the election strategy in a meeting.
Asad Uddin spoke about such unity in a Facebook status on Saturday. He wrote on Facebook - 'Congratulations and best wishes to Sylhet's boatman Priya Anwaruzzaman Chowdhury.
I am grateful to the people of Sylhet city and the leaders of the Awami League and organizations, who have worked so hard for me so far. Endless gratitude and love to all those who have supported me, given advice and guidance to become a candidate.
I and my family have always been loyal to all the decisions of our leader, Bangabandhu's daughter, Honorable Prime Minister Jannetri Sheikh Hasina in the past, I am today, and I will be in the future, inshallah. I never thought about what I got or didn't get.
Since the beginning of student politics, I have always been involved in mainstream politics with integrity, I have never deviated from this trend till date.
My appeal to the people of Sylhet city and the leaders of the Awami family - If I am a candidate, you would give the same kind of cooperation and labor for our boat candidate.
I believe united Awami League can never be defeated. Joy Bangla, Joy Bangabandhu.'
Zakir Hossain, general secretary of another metropolitan Awami League candidate, said that the party's decision is final. We are with the party chief Sheikh Hasina who has nominated him. We do not disagree with that.
However, the joint general secretary of Metropolitan Awami League, ATM Hasan Zebul, said that no one from the field was nominated and said that even those who wanted to be nominated would have been happy to nominate someone who emerged from the field politics. But the one who was given was nowhere in the field politics of Sylhet. He is not even a resident of the city.
This time, Awami League's former organizing secretary Misbah Uddin Siraj also sought nomination. He said, I am Awami League. I have no opportunity to go beyond the team's decision.
