Preserved bamboo forest burnt fire in Kamalganj

The fire has burnt about 3 acres in the bamboo forest next to Hamham waterfall road in Sunarai bamboo garden of Kurma forest bit of Rajkandi forest range of Kamalganj upazila of Moulvibazar.

On Monday (April 24) afternoon, the fire took place in the Gohin forest of Kurma forest bit of Islampur union of the upazila. In the fire, about 3 acres of various types of bushes and plants were burnt, including bamboo plantations along the narrow forest road.

Tourists visiting Hamham Falls on Eid-ul-Fitr said that there was a fire in many areas of the forest on the way to and from Hamham Falls. The road was not accessible due to the intense heat of the fire. After extinguishing the fire, the tourists came out of the forest later in the evening. Many tree trunks (motha) are said to have been burnt in the fire.

In this regard, Biplab Hossain, Kurma forest officer, said that on Monday afternoon, I received information about the fire in the bamboo plantation on the road leading to Hamham waterfall. The fire was brought under control with the help of forest personnel and local people. About two and a half acres of the forest has been burnt by the flames. The damage has not yet been assessed.

As the reason for the fire, the Bit official said that the cigarette thrown by a tourist while passing or coming to the Hamham waterfall may set the forest on fire.

In this regard, Rajkandi Forest Range Officer Touhidul Islam acknowledged the fire in the bamboo forest and said that there was no damage to the forest. Some leaves and vines were burnt.
