Onion prices go up in Sylhet
All of a sudden, the price of onion has increased abnormally in the markets of Sylhet. Onion price has almost doubled in one jump. Onion prices have increased by Tk 15 to Tk 20 per kg in a week. Buyers have to suffer due to the sudden increase in the price of onion. However, the traders are not showing any logical reason behind the price increase.
Yesterday Saturday (April 29) various markets of the metropolis were seen, traders are selling 50-55 rupees per kg of desi onion. A week ago this onion was Tk 30-35 per kg.
Pallab Saha, who came to buy onions at Bandar Bazar, said that last week I bought a kg of onions for Tk 30. Today we have to buy 50 taka per kg. The price of onion has increased by 20 rupees per kg. Not only onions, but everything in the market now has unusual prices. Buyers are eager to buy rice, oil, sugar, pulses.
He said, the way the prices of goods are increasing, low income people like us are suffering a lot. But there is no one to see our suffering. No one is taking any steps to control the prices of goods in the market.
The seller says that due to Eid, fewer goods vehicles have arrived. Apart from this, due to rain, onions have suffered a lot. Because of this now the price of onion has increased. There is no other reason.
Swapan Ahmad, the owner of Mother Food Store, said that we are also surprised to see the increase in the price of onion. Onion price has increased by Tk 20 per kg twice in two days. Last week we sold one kg onion for Tk 30. Now the onion has to be sold at the rate of Tk 50 per kg due to the increase in the wholesale price.
I don't know the exact reason why the price of onion has increased now. However, going to the wholesale market, it is heard that many onions have been damaged in the rain, due to which the price has increased. In addition, due to Eid, fewer goods vehicles came to Sylhet. Due to which the price may increase. However, the price of onion may decrease, said the seller.
