Illegal current nets seized by UNO in Juri
288 pounds of illegal current net and 100 kg of polythene bags were seized during a raid in Kaminiganj market of Juri upazila of Moulvibazar district. Upazila Executive Officer Ranjan Chandra Dey led the operation on Monday afternoon.
According to Upazila Fisheries Office sources, under the Fisheries Protection and Conservation Act 1950 and Environment Conservation Act 1995, 288 pounds of illegal current net and 100 kg polythene bags were seized in a raid in the Kaminiganj market of the upazila. The estimated market value of the current net is 1 lakh 50 thousand taka.
Besides, a businessman has been fined a total of Tk 35,000 for selling fake electricity. District Fisheries Officer Muhammad Mizanur Rahman, Upazila Fisheries Officer Md Moniruzzaman were present in the expedition. A team of Juri Thana police assisted in the operation.
After the raid, Upazila Executive Officer Ranjan Chandra Dey said that according to the Fisheries Protection and Conservation Act, 1950, raids were conducted in the Kaminiganj market along with seizure of illegal current nets and fines were collected. Such operations will continue to preserve the Hakaluki Haore fishery.
