Flood water, power cut disrupt services at Osmani Medical

Many roads in Sylhet city have been submerged due to continuous rain for the last 5 days. Besides, water entered Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital, the biggest trust of the people in the health department.

Although the water entered the hospital a little, more water entered the medical college building. Every room on the ground floor of this building has accumulated knee-deep water and as time increases, the water also increases.

Health care services were not disrupted even though water entered various buildings of the hospital, the authorities said. However, the patients have to suffer while traveling.

On going to Osmani Hospital around 3 pm on Sunday (July 2), it was found that water had entered the emergency department of the hospital. Water has also entered the new building. However, no parts were submerged in water. However, all the rooms on the ground floor of the medical college have been submerged in water.

Confirming the matter, Director of Osmani Medical College Hospital, Brigadier General Mahbubur Rahman Bhuiyan said, "The drain behind the hospital is overflowing with water. Water entered the entire ground floor of the medical college. Knee-deep water in each room.

He said, "If the City Corporation or those concerned had taken effective action after seeing the water coming in during the flood last year, this situation would not have happened this time." If the rain continues, water will rise in all the buildings. Then maybe the electricity system may not be normal.

Noor Azizur Rahman, chief engineer of Sylhet City Corporation, was contacted for a comment on the matter.
