Ultimatum to stop transport in Sunamganj from May 3

In Sunamganj, a human chain program has been conducted to stop torture of transport workers and extortion in transport and take legal action against the culprits. Various demands were presented by the transport workers in the human chain.

They have given an ultimatum to go on indefinite strike from May 3 if their demands are not met by May 2.

Sunamganj District Bus Minibus Coach and Microbus Sramik Union held this human chain program at Sunamganj Central Bus Terminal on Sunday (April 16) afternoon. The organization's president, Sujaul Kabir, spoke at the human chain. Nurul Haque, Executive President Borhan Uddin, General Zahirul Islam of Sunamganj District Road Transport Owners Association.

Speakers said that on March 12, two transport workers were stripped and beaten severely and their car was vandalized at a place called Barakapan of Chatak Upazila. Later they filed a case under the Speedy Trial Act, but the police treated it as a general case. Due to which the accused are getting acquitted easily. Also the OC of Chatak police station is not cooperating with them. Some people are illegally extorting money at the car-microbus stand in Sunamganj Sadar. Even after filing a case of extortion, the accused are roaming in the open without coming under the law. Therefore, the Superintendent of Police has been requested to take legal action against them by May 2. If not, he gave an ultimatum to go on indefinite strike from 3rd.

District Bus Minibus Coach Workers Union Vice President Anwar Hossain, Joint General Secretary Monir Ali, Organizer Rajab Ali Molla, Publicity Secretary Jahangir Alam, Office Secretary Sumon Ahmad, Finance Secretary Nazir Hossain, member Bilal and other leaders of various branches were present in the human chain.
