BNP leader Elias Ali has been missing for 11 years
On the night of April 17, 2012, Ilyas Ali, the then organizing secretary of BNP, disappeared from Dhaka along with his driver. Today marks 11 years since the former MP went missing. Even in these 11 years, the mystery of Ilyas Ali's disappearance has not been solved. Even after 11 years of disappearance, his family is still waiting. The leaders and activists of his party are hoping that he will return. .
How the missing Elias
On the night of April 17, 2012, the then organizational secretary of BNP and Sylhet district committee president M. Elias Ali. Driver Ansar Ali was with him.
Elias's village home is in Vishwanath, Sylhet. He was also the MPO of that area (Sylhet-2). After 12 o'clock in the night, the police recovered Ilyas Ali's private car in an abandoned condition. Elias and his driver Ansar were not in the car.
Saidur Rahman, the then SI of Banani police station, told the reporters at that time that the police recovered Elias Ali's private car abandoned in front of Mohakhali South Point School and College in the middle of the night. According to the mobile phone of driver Ansar found inside the car, the car belongs to Ilyas Ali.
Regarding the disappearance, Ilyas Ali's wife Luna told the media at night, 'I was not at home. He (Ilyas) left the house around 10:30 pm. Later, the police informed by phone that his car was found abandoned; He cannot be found.
Memorandum to Home Minister demanding return of missing Ilyas Ali
Sylhet District BNP leaders attended the District Commissioner's office of Sylhet on Sunday demanding the return of Ilyas Ali and submitted a memorandum to the Home Minister through the District Commissioner.
Sylhet district BNP president Abdul Qayyum Chowdhury and general secretary Emran Ahmad Chowdhury signed the memorandum, it is said that M. Elias Ali's disappearance will be 11 years tomorrow. He and his driver Anshar Ali went missing from their house in Dhaka's Banani 11 years ago. So far their whereabouts have not been found. After his disappearance, many important people from the Prime Minister to the government promised to find him unharmed and return him to his family. But even in 11 years, the government could not trace them.
Sylhet district BNP president Abdul Qayyum Chowdhury said in a short rally after the protest procession before handing over the memorandum, "Being afraid of the popularity of the BNP leaders, they have disappeared many leaders and workers, including Ilyas Ali, the beloved leader of the people of Sylhet. Democratic movement cannot be stopped by hiding. Rather, the fire of the movement is spreading from intense to intense. If this government does not leave, it will be difficult to get back the missing leaders and workers. Therefore, everyone must unite to ensure the fall of this fascist government.
Sylhet District BNP General Secretary Emran Ahmad Chowdhury said, "The government has chosen the path of disappearances and murders by dividing the people." Power cannot be sustained by these murders. People woke up, took to the streets. Dictatorship will soon fall through agitation and struggle.
After the Zohar prayer with the memorandum, a doa mahfil was organized in the Dargah premises of Hazrat Shahjalal (RA) to find the missing leaders and workers including M. Ilyas Ali.
BNP leader Nurul Haque, Emdad Ahmad Chowdhury, Ashiq Uddin, AKM Tarek Kalam, Iqbal Bahar Chowdhury, Ishtiaq Ahmad Siddiqui, Hasan Ahmad Patwari, Tajrul Islam, Mamunur Rashid, Anwar Hossain, Abu Taher, Wahiduzzaman Chowdhury, Kohinur were present at this time. Ahmed, Shakeel Morshed, Mahbub Alam etc.
The family is still waiting
It is known that Ilyach Ali's children do not know whether their father is alive or dead. They look at the picture of their father again and again. Similarly, mother Suryaban Bibi does not know whether to listen to Elijah's mother's call or not. Mother Suryaban Bibi is still waiting for the return of her child. And wife Luna is still waiting for her husband to return one day.
700 activists of BNP including Ilyas Ali have been kept missing
Recently, Bishwanath Upazila, Municipal BNP and the initiative of the former member of parliament M. BNP chairperson and former prime minister Begum Khaleda Zia's adviser, former member of parliament of Sylhet 2 seat 'missing' M. Ilyas Ali's wife Tahsina Rushdie said, these days people have no right to speak. Talking against the government is a far-fetched thing, even if people want to ask for their right to rice, they have to file a case and go to jail. For speaking against the government, torture and torture with different types of treason cases.
Tahsina Rushdie also said that during this government's tenure, M. 700 leaders and activists of BNP including Elias Ali have been kept missing. Numerous other leaders and activists have confessed to the cross fire and case attacks. There is no use in seeking justice from them. What is the use in seeking justice from those who are involved in the disappearance?
