Sajek-Khagrachari road returns to normal after 60 hours
After two days of road communication between Khagrachari and Sajek being closed due to sinking of the culvert in Dighinala and road at Baghaihat, traffic has resumed. Several vehicles left Khagrachari for Sajek on Thursday (August 10). A tourist car has left from Sajek.
A culvert on the main road of Dighinala Upazila of Khagrachari was submerged by a hill slope coming down from the upstream as a result of heavy rains. As a result, traffic from Khagrachari to Dighinala was stopped. As Sajeke has to travel through Dighinala, the Sajeke road is also closed. On Tuesday (August 8) and Wednesday (August 9) no vehicle left Sajek nor could any vehicle enter Sajek from Baghaihat. So the tourists staying in Saje were stuck in Saje for 2 days on Tuesday and Wednesday.
Lineman Alam of Khagrachari Sajek Counter said that the Sajek traffic has started from this morning after being closed for two days. This morning around 20-25 vehicles left for Sajek. We came to know that the Baghaihat road was waterlogged, so we started driving.
Yarang Tripura, manager of Sajek Jumghar Eco Resort, said vehicles left Sajek this morning after the road was closed for two days. All the tourists who were trapped in Saje have left. New tourists will enter the car from Khagrachari.
Jerry Lusai, General Secretary of Sajek Resort Cottage Owners Association, said that the car left Sajek for Khagrachari on Thursday morning. Several tourists broke up yesterday and left some way by car and some by boat, those tourists who stayed are also going back today. Today, new tourists will arrive in the car from Khagrachari.
Baghaichhari Upazila Nirbahi Officer Rumana Akhter said that the traffic of tourists from Sajek has started at around 9 o'clock this morning due to water receding from the road. I have learned that some vehicles have left from Khagrachari for Sajek.
It should be noted that due to continuous heavy rainfall in the hilly districts, the flood situation has been created due to the hill slopes coming down from the upstream. Tourists were stranded in Sajek as Khagrachari-Sajek traffic was stopped due to landslides.
