Trekking in the Himalayas is not permitted without a guide
Every year many people lose their lives in Himalayan expeditions and avalanches. A few months ago, several foreign tourists lost their lives there. Especially trekking without the help of Sherpa has led to one accident after another. And so this time the government of Nepal took a tough step.
Trekking alone in the Himalayas is not without local guides and Sherpas. Nepal government has issued new guidelines for foreigners. This new rule will be effective from April 1. Kathmandu said that this rule is being introduced keeping in mind the safety of foreign trackers.
Nepal Tourism Board spokesperson Mani Raj Lamishne said that every year foreign tourists are suffering from accidents while trekking alone in the Himalayas. This number has steadily increased over the past few years. The image of our country is getting worse. So this step was taken.
Nepal administration claims that every year 40 to 50 foreign tourists get lost in Himalayas while trekking. They can no longer be contacted. They said that in many cases it is not possible to rescue their dead.
Mani Raj again added that many people have lost their lives while trekking alone in the Himalayas. As a result, wrong messages were being sent. Many foreigners consider Nepal to be a very dangerous place for trekking. That is why the need for this step is immense. We are committed to providing security to foreign trackers.
On the other hand, Tracking Agency Association of Nepal or TAAN has made significant comments about tracking in Nepal. The organization claims that trekking is organized in Nepal in a safe and organized manner. According to TAAN, the trackers are provided from standard permits to insurance. Checkpoints have also been set up to ensure security along the trekking route.
The Nepal Tourism Board said that the new rules for trekking in the Himalayas will apply only to foreigners. Mani Raj said that this will increase employment. Also tracking can be more organized.
TAAN claims, since 2012, extra precautions are being taken by the organization in terms of tracking. The 'One Tracker One Guide' system was introduced from that year. However, they welcomed this initiative of Nepal government.
The Nepalese administration claims that two types of foreign trackers come to their country. A group of them are independent trekkers, who trek alone in different parts of the Himalayas. They do not borrow any guide. Other types of trekkers, however, prefer to visit different parts of the mountains through different travel agencies. According to the Nepalese administration, the number of accidents involving the first type of trackers is high. And so such a strict step was taken.
